The link is to a blog belonging to the editorial staff of the “Young people” part of the local Swedish paper Norrköpings Tidningar (NT).
After the furry documentary shown on Swedish channel 5, which included interviews with a big cat therian, a lot of Swedish blogs have been making fun of “species surgery” and similar ideas.
I can understand chocked teenagers just being able to say: “What the … fuck?”. I can take some jokes. I know that some people are just plain stupid and ignorant. But this blog is owned and written by the editorial staff for a newspaper. For most of the post they write about a future scenario, about all the silly things that would happen if people would be able to change species… that’s not so bad.
But they shouldn’t get away with this (my translation):
I will not be that old, gray and grumpy old woman who harbours contempt and anger towards my grandchild when he acknowledges that he or she during the greater part of his life felt out of place as a human being, but however, has developed a great desire to be an anteater. No, I won’t shake my head or faint. I’ll just sit there, smile, be responsive and serve my grandchild army ants containing a dash of arsenic.
(Bolding by me)
Here it’s not even a person who as actually turned into an animal with sci-fi magic tricks, but just a person who admits that they feel like a non-human animal. It seems like that, in the author’s mind, serves this cruel “joke”?
Yeah… I know this seems like a very local thing. But if any of you lovely tumblr otherkin would take your time and contact the newspaper either at webben@nt.se or ungnt@nt.se, it would make this Swedish therian very happy. They will understand English (and of course Swedish), but remember to put the link to the actual editorial blog for them to understand what you’re talking about.
… Or am I being overly sensitive?
